March 2013 Hammer In

Bob Parks was a wonderful host for our March Hammer In at the Village Smithy in Sugarcreek, Ohio. Bob's shop is a converted service station with high ceilings and plenty of room to move around.

Bob began his demonstration by explaining how easy it was to add a face to one side of a pair of tongs to give it some flair. As he started shaping the steel, it became evident that this was not the first set of tongs Bob has made. He then very deftly changed the plain end of the tongs into a cute animal face.

Some mysterious technical terms such as "drop forging" and "ground tempering" were tossed about. If you weren't there, you'll have to ask someone who was.
